5 Stars THE must have vegan cookbook!
As a new vegan, I purchased a few cookbooks to get me started. Well, I knew instantly when I opened this book that it would be my favorite. This book has everything I needed to get started. The section on stocking the pantry is great. Except for going to the store for fresh ingredients for a recipe, I have everything I need on hand thanks to the thorough list provided.
The sections on cooking terminology, how to cook vegetables, beans and grains are very informative, yet simple and easy to understand.
As for the recipes, wow there is so much to choose from! I made the Lower-Fat Deep Chocolate Bundt Cake and it is absolutely delicious.
There is a section in back of this book that has menu plans which will be very helpful for anyone that likes to entertain.
This book also has a sense of humor, which makes it fun to read.
I will definitely be using this book for a long long time.
5 Stars one of my favorite cookbooks!
veganomicon is a gem of a cookbook! there are so many amazing recipes packed into this book that it can be hard to find a place to start. i love the red lentil and cauliflower curry, it is so flavorful and healthy! the saffron garlic rice and the chickpea quinoa pilaf are divine side dishes. the chickpea cutlets are a favorite as well as the marinated tofu recipes, the italian being my personal favorite. the cashew ricotta is so good that i have been known to eat if off my fingers! there are just too many recipes to name and i still have so many more to try! this book is a must have for any vegan (or otherwise) cook!
5 Stars i keep coming back…
i bought veganomicon after spending my first week as a vegan eating salad and pb&j. i have come so far since then. i didn’t know much about cooking when i began, just that i was commited to my new lifestyle and couldn’t survive eating the same thing everyday. it was a little intimidating to me at first, being a very inexperienced cook, but i figured as long as i followed the recipe i could do it! EVERYTHING i made out of that book has been divine. it’s kept my meat loving husband happily vegan, and i’ve started having to bring an extra serving of leftovers to work for lunch because everyone is dying to try what i’m eating. they are always impressed!
i have a couple more veg cookbooks and subscriptions to veg magazines, but i keep coming back to veganomicon. while the recipes in the others have often had bland and boring ingredients/meals, this book allows me to continue to create and enjoy truly delicious food! i don’t have to eat tofu (i know i’m “supposed” to like it..but..ugh!) and i never ever feel deprived or like i’m on some crazy diet!
i also love the way the author has infused her spunky personality without making the book all about herself. no extraneous photo ops here. just a little butt-kicking and empowerment.
i gift it to everyone and pass on recipes all the time! buy and enjoy!
5 Stars My favorite cook book!
This is hands down my favorite vegan cook book. I like the vegan twist on traditional items, such as macaroni and potato salad, as well as discovering new and tasty recipes. When we are having non-vegans over for a meal I immediately turn to Veganomicon for my menu. And the fact that they suggest meal plans at the back of the book is extra helpful. I read a few comments that said they didn’t like the recipes because they used hard to find foods, and I have to say that I haven’t yet come across an ingredient that I didn’t already have in my pantry or wasn’t easy to pick up at the local grocery store (and I live in a very non-vegetarian town). The recipe directions are easy to follow and every single one we’ve tried has been very tasty.
5 Stars The best!
Really the ultimate vegan cookbook. Great for new vegans and veterans alike. Very user-friendly.
